Pizzeria La Notizia

We are of the philosophy that there is always room for more pizza. That’s why we love the fact that La Notizia, one of the most acclaimed pizzerias in Naples, has not one, but two shops on the same street. Pizzeria La Notizia 53 is the flagship pizzeria where pizza lovers can go to taste wonderfully authentic Neapolitan pizza. Just down the street, one can find Pizzeria La Notizia 94, which is the family’s experimental kitchen. Here, customers can taste modern adaptations of the traditional pizza as per the creativity of the chef, Enzo Coccia.

Pizzeria Brandi

There is absolutely no doubting the quality of Pizzeria Brandi’s pizza. Why? Because it is literally the birthplace of the Margherita Pizza. The pizzeria first popped up in 1780 under the name Pietro...e basta cosi (translated: Peter...and that’s enough). When it was handed over to Enrico Brandi, it was renamed Pizzeria Brandi. Through a series of family connections, Brandi was able to serve the pizza to King Umberto I and Queen Margherita di Savoia in 1889. The Queen loved pizza recipe so much that the Brandi family decided to name it after her, making it the world’s first ever Margherita pizza. Visiting Pizzeria Brandi is one of the best things to do in Naples. Check out these other must-see places in Italy, according to the locals.

Trianon da Ciro

This world-famous Naples pizza shop got its name from the city’s best theatre, where the top performers in all of Italy came to showcase their talent. The story goes that this pizzeria was named after said theatre for two reasons: 1. The aroma and taste of the pizza was so good that the performers couldn’t resist, and 2. The pizza-makers take the same passionate, artistic approach to their pizza just as these artists did. Trianon da Ciro’s pizza is also very large, causing many people to lovingly refer to it as “a ruota del carretto,” or “a wheel of the cart”.

L’Antica Pizzeria Port'Alba

Pizzeria Brandi may have the honor of having created the first Margherita pizza, but L’Antica Pizzeria Port’Alba is said to be the oldest pizza tavern in all of Naples. First established in 1738, the world’s first pizzeria is still a Neapolitan treasure. Port’Alba’s pizza is special for another reason, too: It is cooked in a wood-fired oven lined with lava. That’s right, lava.
